Ukulele lesson - Simple strumming patterns

Once you can play a simple song with some of the basic chords (C, F, G, maybe Am) , you can start to switch your attention to your right hand and focus on playing the chords with different rhythmic patterns, to make it sound more varied and interesting.

Watch the following YouTube video to learn a few effective strumming patterns that you can use to make your song sounds much, much better than just playing each chord once!

Follow the video and practise the strumming on just C chord. Once you get the hang of it, try using the strumming pattern to play a few different chords, then play the songs you learnt and make it better by strumming differently!

You Raise Me Up

You Raise Me Up

Brendan Graham (lyricist)
Rolf Løvland (composer)

Intro:

C     F   C   C
Am   F   G   G
Am   F   C   F
C     G   C   C

          C         F              C        C
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
              C        F                 G      G
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
           Am        F                C         F
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
          C        G               C         C
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

             Am     F              C          G
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
              Am     F              C          G
 You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
     Am           F            C          F
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
              C     G               C       C
 You raise me up to more than I can be.
